  • Understanding that God Helps Us

Uses

  • Admonish Hypocrisy

      • Genesis 22
    • Stephen Becomes a Martyr
      • Acts 7—Stephen is stoned for preaching about the people’s hard-heartedness and unwillingness to receive the Holy Spirit.
    • Justice
      • Esther Saves Her People’s Lives
        • Esther (4:16)—Esther is willing to go to the king’s throne without permission, an act worthy of death, all for the sake of her people.
      • Elijah Asks God to Rain Down Fire
        • I Kings 18:20-40—Elijah, by himself, was the only prophet of God against 450 Baal prophets. He calls fire down to an altar doused with 12 jars of water and slaughters all of the Baal prophets.
      • To Preach
        • Acts 4:13,29,31—Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus. 29 And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness, 31 And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.
      • To be Used by God
        • Ezekiel 22:30—And I sought for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the breach before me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none.

Carefulness

  • Speaking
    • Proverbs 10:19
      • When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent.
    • Ecclesiastes 5:2
      • Be not rash with your mouth, nor let your heart be hasty to utter a word before God, for God is in heaven and you are on earth. Therefore let your words be few.
    • Acting
      • Ephesians 5:15-17
        • Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
      • Proverbs 22:3
        • The prudent sees danger and hides himself, but the simple go on and suffer for it.
      • I John 4:1
        • Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.
      • Proverbs 19:2
        • Desire without knowledge is not good, and whoever makes haste with his feet misses his way.
